This is a letter written by Louis Charles Mann to R. Milroy on 26 Feb. 1886. The letter head is United States Indian Service and is written from the Yakima Indian Agency, Ft. Simcoe, W.T. The letter appears to have been enclosed in the book titled Alphabet Yakama by St. Onge, 1872. From the contents of the letter, it appears that Mr. Mann was sending the book to Mr. Milroy.

Milroy was born on a farm near the hamlet of Canton, five miles east of Salem, Indiana, but the family moved to Carroll County in 1826. He graduated from Norwich Academy in Vermont in 1843. He moved to Texas in 1845, returning to Indiana in 1847. He was a captain in the 1st Indiana Volunteers during the Mexican War, but did not see any combat action. Louis Charles Mann was a leading councilor of the Yakima tribe. He had been born at Fort Simcoe about 1860 when the Indian Agency was stationed there.
